Book reader

The book reader handles reflowable books from servers or local libraries. EPUB has the broadest support; TXT, Markdown, and experimental MOBI/PRC/AZW/AZW3 behavior depends on the file.

Typography and appearance

Use paged or continuous reading, page direction, font size, font family, line height, paragraph spacing, first-line indentation, margins, reading area, and background themes.

EPUB can import local fonts and optionally preserve publisher styles. Koharia recalculates the current and total pages after layout changes.

Navigation and annotations

EPUB provides table of contents, contents filtering, full-text search, chapter navigation, bookmarks, and bookmark notes. Kavita connections may also provide personal table-of-contents bookmarks, text highlights, and annotations depending on the server version and account permissions.

Markdown supports headings, lists, blockquotes, and code blocks, with a document outline available from the reader contents action. Embedded images are not rendered and tables are shown as text.

Read-aloud

EPUB chapters can be read sentence by sentence with sentence highlighting and automatic continuation. Microsoft Edge online voices and Xiaomi MiMo TTS with an API key are supported; playback can also be controlled from the lock screen or Bluetooth media controls.

The current chapter text is sent to the selected speech vendor while reading aloud. Review the privacy notice before the first listen; full configuration and disclosure are in EPUB read-aloud.

Progress and cache

Komga, Kavita, and other supported servers can synchronize reading locations. EPUB server sync uses content locations rather than treating device-dependent visual pages as server page numbers. Local reading positions and bookmarks stay on the device.

EPUB resources may enter the book cache. Cache reduces repeated loading but is not a completed manual download; see Offline and sync.

PDF normally opens as original pages. When text can be extracted, the item or reader can offer a Reflow entry; the reflow result has its own cache, and a failed preparation can fall back to the original PDF.

Format limits

MOBI, PRC, AZW, and AZW3 have experimental text and basic metadata support without DRM, complex layouts, or embedded images. TXT detects common encodings; Markdown is limited to 16 MiB per file.
