Offline and sync

Koharia keeps metadata cache, reading cache, and manual downloads separate. Seeing a shelf or series detail does not mean that the content body is stored on the device.

Four local states

  • Shelf metadata cache: covers, titles, chapters, and filter results that can keep part of a shelf visible offline.
  • Book or page cache: EPUB resources or comic pages fetched during reading, subject to cache policy and limits.
  • Manual download: a complete chapter or file explicitly saved to the download directory for dependable offline reading.
  • Pending sync record: a progress, read-status, bookmark, or annotation change queued offline and submitted after reconnecting.

Clearing temporary cache does not intentionally delete completed downloads. Clearing app data can remove connections, reading records, and metadata stored only in the app database.

Provider differences

  • Komga: shelves use local cache first; supported progress and history sync when online, and EPUB can use book cache or manual download.
  • Kavita: offline search covers downloaded books and saved filters use cached results; progress, annotations, and bookmarks can enter a pending queue with conflict choices.
  • LANraragi: Archive metadata remains searchable offline, but page bodies need a separate download; progress requires server-side tracking.
  • smanga: shelves and details are persistently cached, while chapter bodies must be fully downloaded for offline reading; progress, read state, and history retry after reconnecting.
  • Local libraries: the content already lives in the device or authorized folder, so offline reading does not require a remote server; reading state and metadata stay local.

Progress conflicts

When the server and local positions differ, or page order changed, Koharia may ask you to choose the local or server position. Check the most recent reading device and content version before confirming; visual page numbers are not a stable sync position for every server.

Before starting a large batch download, read the Storage guide and confirm that enough space is available.
